Also, if you could all find the addresses/ contact info for the firms you found for the list, and get it to someone on the Advertising/Branding Committee asap, that’d be awesome!

Thanks!!

Typography Flickr Groups

October 30, 2008 by

I absolutely love Flickr. Recently I discovered that there are groups on there dedicated to different aspects of typography. I was able to find a list of 25 good groups from www.youthedesigner.com. One of my personal favorites is the “Quotation Mark” Abuse group. I thought I was perhaps the only one with this annoyance. There is also a Neon Sign group, Helvetica group, One Letter group and the list goes on. There are some very interesting photos and they sure help with inspiration if you are in a rut.

You the Designer

October 29, 2008 by

This is a great site for all graphic designers. It has many useful things like articles, resources, inspiration, tutorials, recent news, and has a blog. Some of the stuff that could be useful for us right now would be the 12 Steps to a Super Graphic Design Portfolio, 25 Graphic Design Career Preparation Tips, The Graphic Design Resume Guide, and 25 Ways to be More Productive as a Designer.

Finally!!!

October 12, 2008 by

ok, so I finally got my idea down. I just wanted to see what everyone thought, and if you could put any input into it.

As you know I enjoy information design, and I wanted to incorporate that into my project. Also, I did a lot of traveling last year, and I kind of miss planning out my trips. So, I am going make my own Travel Agency. I am not too sure with the name, but I was maybe thinking Travel Spinn, because the globe spins and my last name is spinner. Other ideas for names would be greatly appreciated.

ok, so a customer would come up and set an appointment up with my travel agency either through my website or through the phone. The customer would tell us what they want and first thing we would do it map out their transportation for them. Then through charts and graphs we would tell them where all there money will be going.

The difference between my agency and others is that we would focus mainly on what you will be doing on your trip rather then just planning the airfare and room (hotels, hostels, etc.)

I was also thinking about making my travel agency for the open crazy traveler. So maybe I will have package deals for the ‘running of the bulls’ in Spain or “climbing mt. everest” in the Himalayas.

What do you think about this?

Random projects

October 7, 2008 by

So I came across this little blurb about random projects people have worked on. I really like many of the styles these designers use so I thought I’d share them with you. Also, there’s not a lot of reading so this should be appealing to all of the picture book lovers out there :)

Here is a good site just for inspiration… something I’m sure we’ll all be needing along the way.

It has 170,000 cutting edge commercials and ads.

Senior Show Branding Ideas

September 23, 2008 by

Hey everyone,

For those of you who weren’t in class today (Tuesday, 9/23)  we all discussed different ideas for a theme/name of our show.

We all kind of came up with two ideas out of the group, that we thought were the strongest or would potentially work the best.

They are:

1- “Conceptual Collision” – Sam had a nice sketch he showed to the class.  Basically, the idea is that he would take pieces from everyone’s project and combine them into this big, chaotic cloud of… chaos.  On the website it would be animated.

Sam Schuna Brilliance

2- “Best if Used By”-  This idea expresses the fact of how quickly Graphic Design “expires” or goes out of style.  It could be very visually striking, with photographic images of rotting meat with flies on it, old fruit with mold growing on it, etc.

———————————

SO, I guess this is just to get everyone up to speed on what we discussed today.  If you all want to post comments, questions, thoughts, or opinions that’s cool.  We will discuss it more on Thursday as well.

This website is basically package design, but it definitely relates to our projects and the graphics are great.
